Prince Harry and Meghan Markle were joined by her mother, Doria Ragland, in the Big Apple for the award ceremony. Along with her Johanna Ortiz dress, Meghan wore gold shoes by Tom Ford and gold hoop earrings from J. Crew. The Duchess is being honored and celebrated for her “lifelong advocacy for women and girls.”

And while some people say that Meghan looked smashing, others weren’t big fans of her look. Some have even suggested that her dress made her look more like a ‘gold digger’ as many people think that she only married Prince Harry for his royal status. Of course, it didn’t take very long for many critics to weigh in on Meghan’s dress on social media.

Some commented with, “Why wouldn’t a Gold digger wear gold and be seen wearing it coveting all the attention??? She’s soooo tacky and putting on airs to make herself something’s she’s not!!!” along with, “The jokes really do write themselves lately, don’t they? Another critic wrote, “Another ill-fitting dress. She has no waist for these kinds of dresses. Look like a flat straight ruler. Looks like the designer whipped up that dress using upholstery fabric left over from the early 1950s. Someone needs to tell her the next time she steps out of the house.”
