Meghan Markle Makes King Charles ‘Very Disappointed’ By Skipping His Coronation

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have enjoyed the spotlight over King Charles’ coronation for two reasons. First, rumors swirled that the couple might refuse to attend. And second, Meghan stole the spotlight for deciding to snub the coronation.

Find out how King Charles reacted to his daughter-in-law staying at home in California. And learn about Buckingham Palace’s formal statement on Meghan and Harry as well as their son Archie and daughter Lilibet. Get all the details below.

King Charles Reacts To Meghan Markle’s Coronation Snub

Royal family insiders revealed that Meghan Markle saddened King Charles when she rejected his invitation to attend his coronation. And the monarch feels “very disappointed” in his daughter-in-law, according to the sources. But King Charles rejoiced when his son Prince Harry promised to attend the historic May 6 coronation, note the insiders via the NY Post.

King Charles had hoped to spend time with Meghan, Harry, and the couple’s two children. But only one of that quartet will satisfy the monarch’s wishes. And instead, as King Charles receives his crown, Meghan will remain in California with her son Archie and daughter Lilibet.

As a result, “the king is happy that Harry, his son, who he calls his ‘darling boy,’ will be at the Abbey. He wanted him there,” shared one insider. But the source noted that the absence of the monarch’s daughter-in-law and grandchildren upset him. And the insider called the situation sad. King Charles feels “very disappointed that he won’t see Meghan or his grandchildren,” added the source. But the monarch “understands the situation.”

Buckingham Palace Comments On Meghan Markle And Prince Harry

However, rumors indicate that the monarch did not actually invite Archie and Lilibet to attend the formal coronation. The event occurs on the same date, May 6, as Archie’s birthday. But Buckingham Palace’s statement on the topic of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s attendance avoided controversy.

And the palace focused on confirming Harry’s plans to travel 5,459 miles from Montecito, Calif., to London for the coronation and accompanying events. “Buckingham Palace is pleased to confirm that the Duke of Sussex will attend the coronation service at Westminster Abbey on May 6,” announced the formal statement. “The Duchess of Sussex will remain in California with Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet.”

Because of the rumors that Archie and Lilibet did not receive invitations to the coronation, some royal watchers speculate that Harry and Meghan felt upset that their children seemed snubbed. And the Duke of Sussex at first refused to make a commitment to attending his father’s coronation. For instance, one interview included Harry claiming that he had “a lot to be discussed” before he could decide.

“But, the door is always open,” added Harry. “And I really hope that they’re willing to sit down and talk about it.” As a result of rumored discussions, Harry apparently felt satisfied enough to finally make the commitment. And he will watch as the coronation sees his father King Charles formally crowned.
