Meghan Markle might want to take lessons in reading a room. Because after seemingly taking “Oops she did it again” as her theme song, the Duchess of Un-success (oops, we mean Sussex) just sparked yet another backlash. And this time, it involves Meghan believing she knows enough about “courage and resilience” to preach about it to injured veterans.
Find out how the Duchess of Sussex will deliver a speech at this year’s Invictus Games. And learn how her chosen topic sparked a backlash. Get all the royal details below.
Meghan Markle Preaches About ‘Courage’
When the Invictus Games take place later this year, the Duchess of Sussex has chosen to share her own experience with “courage and resilience” as she speaks to injured veterans. However, a royal expert mocked Meghan for claiming she possesses these qualities. And royal biographer Angela Levin proclaimed the Duchess of Sussex’ unintentional irony in choosing those topics via Page Six.
As Levin reflected on Markle’s upcoming lecture at this year’s Invictus Games in Germany, she questioned why the Duchess of Sussex, 42, would think herself qualified to give a supposedly personal lecture on “courage and resilience” to injured veterans competing in the games. Author of “Harry: A Biography of a Prince,” Levin called the topic “ironic.”
And she shared, “Meghan is going to be there [Invictus Games]. She is going to speak to the veterans about courage and resilience. I thought that was quite ironic,” added Levin. “Because she represents neither of those things.”
Prince Harry Struggles Amid Meghan’s Plans
Meanwhile, while Meghan perfects her speech, Prince Harry has struggled. And Levin expressed concern about what she views as his unhappiness. Harry’s struggles come as the Duke and Duchess of Sussex plan to attend the week-long Invictus Games in Düsseldorf, which kicks off September 9.
And Meghan and Harry will use their trip to Germany as a milestone. It will signify their first joint European appearance since the late monarch’s funeral on Sept. 19, 2022. However, amid their presence in Europe for the Invictus Games, the couple got iced out of an event at Balmoral Castle on Sept. 8 marking one year since Queen Elizabeth II’s death. And an insider shared that Meghan and Harry did not get an invitation from the royal family.
However, Levin noted what Harry, 38, shared in his sneak peek of his upcoming Netflix documentary about the Invictus Games. And in the preview trailer for “Heart of Invictus,” the Duke of Sussex discussed his experience in arranging the annual event to unite veterans. But Levin saw that Harry looked more like his “former self” than before.
And the royal expert shared that the trailer “struck me more like the Harry I knew in 2017 when I was writing his biography. He was brilliant with the soldiers who were damaged mentally or physically.” And she added, “I just wonder if he is coming out of the pit he has been in and he’s becoming more like a man himself. He’s in a very bad, miserable state. He was happy before,” added Levin. “But he isn’t now.”
