Meghan Markle & Prince Harry Hired A Social Media Expert To Improve PR Presence

Meghan Markle & Prince Harry

They’re already famous, but it seems Meghan Markle and Prince Harry still want to boost their image. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex reportedly hired a digital communications expert who will be responsible for their social media presence.

“Conquering The World” Through Social Media

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry are serious about wanting to be relevant in this social media-driven world that they’re allotting a slice of their royal budget for the job! According to The Sun, the royal couple is paying £30k a year, or around $35,000, for the position.

“Harry and Meghan want to conquer the world and they want to do it through the prism of social media to really connect with their followers,” a royal insider told The Sun.

David Watkins, a 26-year-old former Burberry employee, has been picked for the job. Watkins is said to be really social media savvy and have “amazing video skills.” He is responsible for Meghan and Harry’s official Instagram account, launched in April this year.

As of now, the Sussex Royal IG page already has 9.4 million followers, as compared to Prince William and Kate Middleton’s 9.9 million. It is interesting to note that William and Kate reportedly share a social media team with Buckingham Palace, while Harry and Meghan chose to create their own independent team.

The Sussexes’ Separate Royal Household

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle used to share a royal household with Prince William and Kate Middleton. The “Fab Four,” as they were fondly called, also shared social media accounts. But last spring, Harry and Meghan announced that they were officially separating from the Cambridges’ household. Soon after, their pictures and info were removed from the Kensington Palace’s social media bio. Subsequently, Buckingham Palace revealed that the Duke and Duchess of Sussex also left the Royal Foundation to create their own.

This means that Harry and Meghan want to establish their own brand. They have chosen their own causes to champion–Prince Harry with sports and his Invictus Games, and Meghan with diversity and women empowerment. The two are also advocates of mental health and environmental conservation.

Since striking out on their own, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex have assembled their own royal staff. But despite having their own social media manager now, the Sussexes still don’t have their own Twitter handle. Their official outings are being documented by the Royal Family’s Twitter account.
