In what is sure to be construed as another hit to the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s regal reputation, Lady Anne Glenconner is now giving her two cents worth about Meghan’s work ethic, or lack of it.
Royal watchers know that fewer than two weeks remain in the month of March, with the 31st due to be forever known as Megxit—will it be on the calendars from here on out?
After that date, the man is formerly known as Prince, and his American wife will be freed at last from those apparently soul-draining requirements of royal life.
While the monarchy has been loathing to share deets about the family breakup, there are those with connections who have happily chimed in on the unprecedented break from protocol. No, I’m not talking about excommunicated dad Thomas Markel!
Lady Glenconner has earned the right to speak on all things royal
In this case 87-year old Lady Glenconner, a former lady-in-waiting to Princess Margaret has revealed an interesting tidbit about what she thinks of Meghan’s perception of her now abandoned royal role. Lady Glenconner is the daughter of an earl and married to Colin Tennant, 3rd Baron Glenconner. She has the cred to speak upon all things royal as she’s interacted with generations of royalty for decades.
She recently did an interview with UK publication The Guardian and spilled a rather tell-tale perspective on the former (still?), actress.
With all due respect I’m sure, Lady Glenconner called Meghan, “a spare.” It’s not quite the diss it sounds like as this is the phrase used to refer to indirect successors to the crown!
According to Lady Glenconner, it’s right proper to lump Meghan, and even Harry, in with black sheep Prince Andrew as each has, “made the mistake” of not appreciating that each royal is expected to put in a little elbow grease in connection to his or her duties.
Lady Glenconner thinks Meghan is no Princess Margaret
“I think she thought she could drive around in a golden coach,” said the aristocrat in reference to Meghan. “Princess Margaret did so much charity work, and without any photographers, unlike the Princess of Wales.” Aw, snap!

Get this, according to Lady Glenconner, Princess Margaret loved nothing better than to wash Lady Glenconner’s car and pull weeds from her garden!
But wait, there’s more. Lady Glenconner also shares her insight on the heir and the spare, saying that Prince William and Prince Harry, “go on about their mother the whole time. I think it’s a bit much.”
Lady Glenconner has a memoir entitled, Lady in Waiting: My Extraordinary Life in the Shadow of the Crown, and she is portrayed by Nancy Connell in season three of The Crown, while Helena Bonham Carter plays Princess Margaret.

She could have thought that she could just have her way in the UK.
