Meghan Markle reportedly missed out on a major event in London that marked the 40th anniversary of Andrew Lloyd Webber’s The Phantom of the Opera.
Allegedly, she did reach out to the organizers but didn’t make the guest list. It comes hot on the heels of yet another event where she wasn’t seen. Read on for more details.
An Invitation That Never Came
Alison Boshoff, an editor-at-large for the Daily Mail UK, took to her Substack on October 10 and reported that a source claimed “that Meghan had reached out to organisers about the possibility of attending.”
However, it seems that she ended up with no invitation despite expressing interest. Just days before, we reported that Neil Sean, a royal commentator, opined that Prince Harry and Meghan Markle “have now become so difficult that people” don’t want all the hassles with security.
Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Royal Connections
Andrew Lloyd Webber knows King Charles, and they have a close connection. The Standard UK reported that “Lord Lloyd Webber composed the anthem ‘Make a Joyful Noise’ for the King’s coronation last year.”
Furthermore, in a rare honour for someone from the arts, King Charles made Lloyd Webber a member of the Order of the Garter, and it was described as a gift by the monarch. However, that doesn’t mean King Charles influenced any decisions about The Phantom of the Opera guest list.

Despite reports of some reconciliation, tensions between the Sussexes and the royal family haven’t entirely disappeared.
People Magazine reported that, allegedly, the royal family isn’t entirely sure why Prince Harry and Meghan Markle returned to the UK.
Three Events, No Invitations?
On Substack, Boshoff also mentioned other events that Meghan Markle didn’t get to attend. One of them was “the premiere of In The Shadows at the BFI London Film Festival.”
The other event was the one covered by Neil Sean, and that was arranged by George Clooney: the Albies at the Natural History Museum.
Boshoff made a point of mentioning all three huge events: the Albies, the BFI London Film Festival, and The Phantom of the Opera.
London Society Moves On?
When Dan Wootton discussed the Andrew Lloyd Webber snub with Princess Olga on his Outspoken podcast on YouTube, he suggested that “things are going pretty badly in terms of Meghan Markle’s society return to the United Kingdom.”
Folks who watched the podcast took to the comments section, and one of them wrote, “Looks like the rich and famous are taking King Charles’s ‘private citizens’ edict seriously.”
Here are a few more responses from the discussion:
- “And to think Markle was appointed as the Royal Patron of the National Theatre by Queen Elizabeth II before she ran off and decided that wasn’t good enough for her.”
- “Andrew Lloyd Webber, good on you. This man has class. Megan has no idea what class is.”
- “How many events that she gatecrashed pretending she’s part of or supporting charities but never donate anything but only for photo opportunities then leave the events[?]”
