The Mail on Sunday newspaper and its parent company, Associated Newspapers are being sued by the Duchess of Sussex. The complaint is that a private letter Meghan wrote to her father was published. In the civil lawsuit, Markle is accusing the newspaper of copyright infringement, misusing private information and violating data protection laws.

According to USA Today, court documents show that the media company plans on using Meghan’s estranged father against her. It is stated that Thomas provided evidence and he had a “weighty right to tell his version” of what exactly went down between him and Meghan. The documents also claim that this includes what was written in the letter.

Legal teams for the newspaper say that they did nothing wrong. In fact, it is suggested that the Royal Family, including Meghan, relies on publicity. It is also reasoned that People magazine mentioned the letter in a one-sided article using interviews from anonymous “close friends” of Meghan’s.
