Meghan Markle’s Birthday Cake Has An Inspiring Meaning Behind It

On Aug. 8, Meghan Markle turned 38 years old. The Duchess of Sussex surely had a lot to be thankful for the past year, including the birth of her first son! The new mom reportedly had a very low-key birthday celebration, staying at her private home at Frogmore Cottage with only Prince Harry and baby Archie by her side.

While it appears to be a simple day, the Duchess probably received lots of gifts from friends and family. One special gift delivered to her house that day was a birthday cake with a truly heartwarming story behind it.

According to Good Morning America, Meghan Markle received a custom birthday cake made by Luminary Bakery. Royal expert Omid Scobie posted a photo of the actual cake on social media and it looks totally delicious! It’s a three-layer carrot cake with nude buttercream icing, topped with fresh herbs and oranges. “Happy Birthday Meghan,” the short but sweet message reads.

But if Meghan Markle is going to have her cake and eat it too, it has to be for a good cause. After all, the Duchess of Sussex is known to be a firm advocate of many charities. Her birthday cake, however simple, is a statement in itself.

Luminary Bakery is a social enterprise dedicated to helping disadvantaged women in London. According to Vogue, the bakeshop reaches out to homeless women, victims of abuse, and those in prisons by giving them livelihood projects.

This isn’t the first time Meghan has heard of Luminary Bakery’s good deeds. The Duchess of Sussex featured the business in the latest issue of the British Vogue, which she guest-edited.

While Meghan was believed to have stayed home on her birthday, royal sources say that she did get a belated birthday trip. According to Vanity Fair, Meghan and Prince Harry jetted off to a private resort in Ibiza with Prince Harry and their son Archi a few days after her actual birthday.

The public has not gotten any shots of the royal family during their super-secret vacation, but we hear it’s truly lavish! A Spanish newspaper reported that the family-of-three stayed in a private villa for six days, accompanied by their security force.
