It looks like Meghan Markle’s estranged father Thomas Markle Senior will be getting the royal treatment on her wedding day, too. New reports say that Thomas will get to feel extra special while walking down the Hollywood star down the aisle with his very own coat of arms. Meghan and Prince Harry will tie the knot in what will most likely be the wedding of the year in May.
According to People Magazine, a coat of arms is given to the father of the bride before a royal wedding. Kate Middleton’s father, Michael Middleton, also received a coat of arms during the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge’s royal wedding back in 2011.
“Every Coat of Arms has been designed to identify a person, school or organization, and is to last forever,” Thomas Woodcock, Garter King of Arms at the College of Arms, told People Magazine back in 2011. “Heraldry is Europe’s oldest, most visual and strictly regulated form of identity and it surrounds us in Britain, giving clues to our history and surroundings.”
For quite some time, many people weren’t sure if Thomas Markle Senior would even be at the wedding to begin with. Reports indicate that Meghan and her father don’t have a close relationship and that she hasn’t seen him in years. What’s more, Meghan is much closer to her mother Doria Ragland than her father or his side of the family for that matter.
And while Thomas will be in London to see his daughter get married to Prince Harry, further reports claim that the rest of the Markle family have been left off from the invite list. Apparently, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are only inviting those family members and friends that are near and dear to them, plus a few thousand locals from Windsor.
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are set to get married on May 19th at Windsor Castle.
