Meghan Markle’s Podcast Relaunch Deal Worth £16 Million Less Than Spotify Deal

Sometimes you need to come down in order to climb again. When Meghan Markle’s “Archetypes” was dropped by Spotify, the former actress reportedly shopped it around to Spotify competitors like Audible.

However, none of them wanted to bite. So as part of her rebrand, she signed a deal with female-founded platform Lemonada, but an expert believes the deal would have meant a loss of £16 million for the Duchess.

Inside Meghan Markle’s Deal To Produce Content For Lemonada

Since exiting the Royal Family, Harry and Meghan have been keen to brand themselves on TV, podcasts and even through publishing.

Their steps mirrored Barack and Michelle Obama’s own following their term at the White House that they’ve often been compared with the power couple.

Meghan Markle's Podcast Relaunch Deal Worth £16 Million Less Than Spotify Deal

After losing her sweet £18 million deal with Spotify following the release of “Archetypes,” Meghan has decided to settle with a smaller deal with upcoming platform Lemonada.

This deal will see her produce new content for the platform, as well as distribute her old 12-episode Archetypes episodes through the firm.

Weighing in on the new deal, branding expert Andrew Bloch told Fabulous: “The Lemonada deal is believed to be worth much less than the former Spotify deal.”

Calculating how much the deal could be worth, he noted, “While the couple were paid around £18million by Spotify, Lemonada’s total revenue across all of its podcasts was around $8million (£6.3million) last year.

Meghan’s new deal could be worth roughly 10 per cent of Spotify deal, so around £1.9million.” The deal’s worth is yet to be officially disclosed.

While Spotify put her in league with podcasters like Joe Rogan, former US President Barack Obama, and many others, Lemonada gave her a more modest standing. Former Seinfeld actress Julia-Louis Dreyfus and Nickelodeon child star Jenette McCurdy produce podcasts for the platform.

Meghan Markle Says She’s “Proud” And “Eager” To Join The Lemonada Family

Meghan teased the deal in a statement, writing, “I’m proud to now be able to share that I am joining the brilliant team at Lemonada to continue my love of podcasting.

Being able to support a female founded company with a roster of thought provoking and highly entertaining podcasts is a fantastic way to kick off 2024.”

She continued: “Our plan to re-release Archetypes so that more people can now have access to it, as well as launching a dynamic new podcast are well in the works.I’m so eager to be able to share it soon, and am overjoyed to be joining the Lemonada family.”

The news came shortly after Harry and Meghan ditched Archewell for Sussex.com, where they promised to share “personal” messages with the public.
