The long-suffering mantra of Queen Elizabeth was and is, “Never complain, never explain.” In other words, neither the Queen of England nor any of her family would comment on stories the tabloids would run.
Of course, the tradition was broken when both Meghan Markle and Prince Harry apparently had quite enough and came out swinging. Over the course of 2019, fans of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle watched them file one lawsuit after another against British tabloids. For example, Harry sued the owners of The Daily Mirror and the Sun. For her part, Meghan sued the Associated Newspapers over an article published in the Mail.
Now, some fans are saying “Hurrah!” as Prince William and Kate Middleton follow in Harry and Meghan’s footsteps. According to reports, the Tattler, yet another British tabloid ran a story that William and Kate found abhorrent. In fact, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge called the story “sexist and woman-shaming at its very worst.”
Of course, this is nothing new for British tabloids as William and Kate are no doubt aware. From sending out paparazzi in an effort to catch Prince William, Kate Middleton, other members of the Royal family, and other celebrities in embarrassing situations to constantly gossiping, gasping, and gushing, British tabloids have perfected the art of bad taste.
Fans know that many of these stories, such as those centering on Kate Middleton go on ad nauseum comparing her to William’s mother, Princess Diana. They also snipe and suggest all kinds of horrible things about the nature of Kate’s relationship with Prince Harry’s wife, Meghan Markle.
According to reports, the specific article that broke the camel’s back for William and Kate suggested that the later was exhausted all the time, had eating disorders, and was under constant stress due to the departure of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle.
Fans of the royals may now be thinking to themselves that it’s about time Prince William, Kate Middleton, and the Royal family hit back.
In fact, Prince Harry, Prince William, and their wives may bring in the legal vanguard that puts a check on the totally unethical research methods these tabloids employ. Long have these publications tapped the phones of their targets, broken into houses, chased the Royals all over creation, and more.
The bottom line is that William and Harry just might see this as a means to repay the yellow journalists they believe are responsible for the death of their mother, Princess Diana. If William and Kate are successful in court, one might hope they gain just a measure of satisfaction at the fact the tabloids are being taken down a peg.
