According to the book, Meghan Markle told several people that she can’t believe she isn’t getting paid to meet the Australian people. Alongside this claim is another one that accused the 41-year-old of threatening to dump then-boyfriend Prince Harry if he wouldn’t make their relationship official.
Valentine Low’s New Book “Courtiers: The Power Behind the Crown” Sparks Meghan Markle Bullying Allegations Again
During the couple’s 2018 tour of Australia, Meghan Markle was reportedly overheard by several members of staff complaining about not being paid to do the engagement. She felt that she had to be somehow rewarded for the energy she’s put into making the tour a success.
The newlyweds visited several places during their Autumn royal tour in October, with stops in Fiji, Tonga, New Zealand and Australia.
At the time, the tour received massive attention because it was announced that Meghan was pregnant with her and Harry’s first child. The tour lasted for 16 days, with Meghan and Harry being touted as an “inspiration role model”. Even though they were warmly received, Mr. low said that “it was a different story behind the scenes”.
“Although she enjoyed the attention, Meghan failed to understand the point of all those walkabouts, shaking hands with countless strangers,” Mr. Low wrote, per a report by the Sun.
“According to several members of staff, she was heard to say on at least one occasion, ‘I can’t believe I’m not getting paid for this’.”
Harry would go on to claim during their 2021 Oprah interview that it was after the tour that the media’s coverage of them turned sour. He seemed to indicate that it was done out of “jealousy”, hinting that the same thing happened when his late mother and father toured Australia and Princess Diana stole all the headlines.
When pressed by Oprah to explain what he meant, he simply said, “I just wish that we would all learn from the past.” He also claimed that Meghan could have been an invaluable asset to the Royal Family and the Commonwealth.
Meghan Markle Allegedly Made Harry “Nervous” By Threatening To Dump Him If He Would Not Go Public With Their Relationship
In the “Courtiers”, set for release next month, Low said a source revealed Meghan had once threatened to break up with Harry. While Harry wanted to protect his girlfriend from public scrutiny by keeping mute on their relationship, the former actress allegedly wanted “public validation that this was a serious relationship”.
“A source said, ‘She was saying, ‘If you don’t put out a statement confirming I’m your girlfriend, I’m going to break up with you’,” the author wrote.
According to the unnamed source, Harry was in panic and freaking out that she might dump him.
Harry then made the move and reached out to Kensington Palace Communications Secretary Jason Knauf for assistance in revealing the news to the world.
