The Buckingham Palace has denied claims that the Duchess of Sussex is going on a 30-day hibernation after giving birth to her and Prince Harry’s firstborn, Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor.
The palace said that reports saying Meghan Markle would take up “postnatal confinement” is “categorically untrue.” The statement came out after news broke that the book that Meghan’s mother, Doria Ragland has sent her, which was entitled, “The First Forty Days: The Essential Art of Nourishing the New Mother” has sparked her interest in giving the Chinese practice a try.
According to the book, new mothers need to ban visitors and completely avoid any kind of interaction with the outside world for 30 days. Instead, the new mother should focus on bonding with the baby and spend time for self-care as well as meditation. The 30-day hibernation after birth is a common practice across Asia. In China, there are special facilities where new mothers can stay for one month.
A source revealed that “Doria had been speaking to Meghan constantly throughout her pregnancy and couldn’t have been more supportive. She was recommended this book, read it, and then sent it to Meghan who said it had become her ‘bible’ – she wants to adopt the key principles in as much as her royal status allows. Obviously she cannot shut herself off completely from the outside world but she and Prince Harry are in agreement that her visitors in the first two weeks will be family members only.”
Meghan’s next scheduled royal engagement is in October at the One Young World Summit. The Duchess of Sussex has once worked with the organization as a councillor long before she met Prince Harry. Moreover, there are rumours that she will attend the Queen’s Official Birthday parade – Trooping the Colour, on June 8, but so far, no official announcement has been made.
Meghan Markle has been the center of media attention since she met Prince Harry mostly because of her unconventional ways. Recently, royal biographer Angela Levin warned Meghan that she doesn’t stand a chance if she continues to challenge the palace with her maverick ways.
She said, “Buckingham Palace, unsettled by Meghan’s determination to do things her own way, has already taken decisive action to control her activities.”
