British royal family news presents a stunning development in the sex assault case currently making its way through the courts against Prince Andrew. According to the outlet, “Insiders say the option ‘remains on the table’ if, as expected, Judge Lewis Kaplan rejects his legal team’s motion this week to have Virginia Roberts’ lawsuit dismissed at an early stage.”

The judge was to have ruled on a request by Prince Andrew’s legal team on Monday, but deferred his decision. Many have speculated on the effect this case is having on his mother 95-year old Queen Elizabeth, as well as the monarchy’s reputation.

Prince Andrew’s team is said to understand the, “attritional impact,” the case is having on the Royal Family. This year the Queen celebrates her Platinum Jubilee, a commemoration of 70 years on the throne.

Speaking to the potential of a payout, one source said, “Obviously, this is a US case involving US lawyers and involving a US civil lawsuit. In reality, 99 per cent of US civil litigations are settled out of court.”

“A settlement would always be an option on the table, as that’s where the vast majority end up. There is also the wider pressure and attritional impact to consider.”

Despite one insider talking of the possibility of a settlement, the Daily Mail made clear that, “Sources with knowledge of the case stressed last night that no discussions have taken place yet about whether the Queen’s son could – or should – agree a settlement without liability being admitted.”

Buckingham Palace has refused to comment on the litigation calling it an, “ongoing legal matter.”

Andrew’s lawyers have argued that Roberts’ case should not proceed to trial, “because of her own 2009 civil settlement with dead convicted pedophile, and friend of Andrew, Jeffrey Epstein.” They have called her suit against Andrew a cash grab.

She received a $500,000 (£370,000) payout from Epstein. Roberts alleges that she was abused by Epstein and his girlfriend, Ghislaine Maxwell, and that they ‘trafficked’ her to their friend, the prince, while she was a minor. Last week Maxwell was convicted on similar charges to Epstein and now awaits sentencing.
