Prince Charles And CamillaThe Duke and Duchess of Cornwall have officially kicked off their much anticipated tour of Canada by arriving in Newfoundland and Labrador on Tuesday. The royals were greeted by hundreds of Canadian people and officials. School children also came out in droves to catch a glimpse of the royals and to check hands with them as they passed.

The Prince of Wales began the tour by saying that as the visit takes “us from the newest member of Confederation to among the oldest communities in the North – and to a much-storied capital at the heart of a great nation – my wife and I look forward to listening to you and learning about the future you are working to build.”

Prince Charles And Camilla Begin Their Tour Of Canada By Inspecting Military Personnel

Prince Charles has accepted nine honorary appointments and is currently holding three honorary ranks in the Canadian Armed Forces.

Charles, who is the colonel-in-chief of the Black Watch, Royal Highland Regiment, kicked off the tour by Inspecting some of the assembled military personnel.

Camilla Parker Bowles did the same thing for the Queen’s Own rifles of Canada, a Toronto regiment that she’s the honorary colonel. During the engagement, a bugler played the Last Post and the Piper’s Lament followed — songs traditionally played at Remembrance Day ceremonies.

About a thousand people, some of them carrying Canadian, British, and Ukrainian flags, gathered around the perimeter of the memorial to catch a glimpse of the royal couple.

After the short military ceremony, the couple met and greeted the excited crowd and even took selfies with more than a few.

Some of the eager fans who came to see them traveled quite a distance from their homes and arrived hours earlier in order to catch a glimpse of the royals as they passed by.

“Personally, Canada and Canadians have had a very special place in my life since my very first visit here more than a half-century ago,” Charles said. “Time and again, I’ve seen what makes this country truly great — its people and what they stand for.”
