On this, the 75th anniversary of VE Day, Charles and Camilla laid floral honors at a war memorial at Balmoral Castle, Aberdeenshire. In Scotland, the couple is known as the Duke and Duchess of Rothesay.
Camilla Had A Personal Moment Reflecting On VE Day As She Left A Tribute To Her Late Father
At the same time, Camilla was able to remember her own father, Major Bruce Shand. Shand was a decorated officer who fought with the 12th Lancers. Camilla left a personal handwritten note, and flowers, for her father, and no doubt the moment was emotional and full of fond memories.
She handpicked the flowers and her note was tied to the bouquet. Her monogrammed card read: “In memory of my darling father, and all the officers and men of the 12th Lancers, who fought so bravely to give us peace. Camilla.”
Shand joined the army in 1937 as a cavalry officer with the 12th Lancers and Camilla was close to him up until his death in 2006 at the age of 89.

Camilla And Charles Wore Clothing That Reflected And Honored The Solemn Occasion
Both Camilla and Charles were dressed in suitable attire for the occasion, keeping in line with the military remembrance.
Camilla wore a 4 Rifles dress because she is Royal Colonel of the regiment, and a 12th Royal Lancers regimental brooch; her father fought with that unit.
Charles wore medals and neck order in addition to Highland Day Dress–a Hunting Stewart kilt with a Gordon Highlanders tie and lapel badge. Charles also included a handwritten note with his floral honor, and it read, “In everlasting remembrance.”

The 75th Celebration Of The End Of WWII Will Be Scaled Back Due To Coronavirus Restrictions
Queen Elizabeth will speak to the country at 9 pm. She will address the nation from Windsor Castle where she has been in isolation for weeks due to the global coronavirus lockdown.
After her address the nation will be invited to join a singalong to Vera Lynn’s wartime classic, We’ll Meet Again.
Although other royals and politicians will mark the occasion as well, these events are severely curtailed due to current coronavirus restrictions.
