For months the normally out and about royals were seen via video calls. Today marks the first day that the family has returned to public engagements although Queen Elizabeth was seen in public in a certain fashion over the weekend when she watched a mini-parade at Windsor Castle.
The Royals Are Now Carrying Out Official Public Engagements
While the royals are back in public air, it is with conditions such as no pressing of the flesh and they must observe standard COVID protocol such as maintaining a 6-foot social distance from others.
Still, for a country used to seeing the royals in person, their presence has to be a reassuring sign that life is returning to normal.

Prince William visited the Kings Lynn Ambulance Station to give his personal thanks to the staff who worked through the pandemic. At the same time, he listened to their tales of what the “new normal” has been like for them. In April, he and his wife Kate Middleton debuted the initiative “Our Frontline” which provides assistance to front line staff.
Prince Charles and Camilla, the Duchess of Cornwall, went to Gloucestershire Royal Hospital where they visited the staff and made it a point to meet with essential workers who toiled on the front line of the coronavirus crisis.

Prince Charles told the workers that it was a “marvelous opportunity just to have a chance of seeing people who I know have been doing so much literally on the front line.”
Camilla told reporters who were present that the front line workers were, “Britain at its best.” She also told the crowd that she finally was able to see her grandchildren last weekend, for the first time since her isolation began.
She said that she did, “Not hug them but see them, a great treat.” The Duchess previously stated that not being able to hug her five grandkids was the most difficult aspect of lockdown.
