Prince Edward On Overseas Trip As Wife Sophie Nears Milestone Birthday

British royal family news reveals that Edward and Sophie, the Duke and Duchess of Edinburgh, have been married since 1999 and have two children together.

Curiously, the Duke of Edinburgh is on an overseas trip just days before his wife celebrates a milestone birthday on Monday.

This Monday the Duchess of Edinburgh turns 60th birthday and Prince Edward recently landed at Lennart Meri Tallinn Airport “where he was greeted by the ambassador to the Republic of Estonia, His Excellency Mr Ross Allen.”

According to Hello! magazine, Buckingham Palace has not confirmed the duration of Edward’s visit.

On his first day in the country he attended a training exercise in Harju County “in his capacity as Colonel-in-Chief of The Royal Dragoon Guards.”

The Duke was appointed Colonel-in-Chief of The Royal Dragoon Guards in August 2023, succeeding his brother, the King, in the role.

The annual event involves soldiers spending two nights in the forest, learning survival skills such as how to build camps, make fires, and find food and water.

Later in the day Edward visited Tapa Camp, an army base in Laane-Viru County and that evening he attended the Battlegroup Officers’ and Warrant Officers’ Reception at Vihula Manor.

Prince Edward is not alone on his trip however, his equerry, Captain George Hopkins from the Scots Guards Regiment, has accompanied him.

Edward has another connection to the Baltic country, albeit a bizarre one. In 1991 Edward was asked to be the country’s king when it regained its independence from the Soviet Union in 1991.

In 1994 The Sunday Telegraph in 1994 described 30-year old Edward as a “young British Prince much admired by Estonians.”

Buckingham Palace politely declined the offer, calling it “a charming idea but a rather unlikely one.”

Royal Family News – Edward Was Almost King

Edward was born 3rd in the line of succession to the British throne, and his current standing is 14th place.

Last week, Edward represented the British monarchy at the Washington D.C. state funeral for the 39th President of the United States, Jimmy Carter. There he was seated next to outgoing Canadian prime minister Justin Trudeau.

Royal Family News – Edward Attended Jimmy Carter’s Funeral

Edward and Sophie share two talented children, Lady Louise Windsor, 21, and James, Earl of Wessex , 17.

According to the outlet, “The family will celebrate the Duchess’ milestone 60th birthday on 20 January, with Sophie being gifted an impressive cake on one of her royal engagements at the Community Shop earlier this week.”
