This Sunday evening, Prince Charles will be hosting world leaders from across the globe ahead of the Queen’s funeral on Monday.
Dozens of heads of state and foreign dignitaries will be landing in London soon for the historic event which is said to be costing taxpayers millions of pounds.
King Charles To Host A Reception For World Leaders Attending the Queen’s Funeral
The Queen met hundreds of dignitaries during her 70-year reign, including 14 US presidents and 15 UK Prime Ministers – the latest being Liz Truss, who she met two days before she peacefully passed away at Balmoral Castle.
Among the foreign world leaders attending the event are US President Joe Biden, Sri Lankan President Ranil Wickremesinghe, Emperor Naruhuto of Japan, Ireland President Michael D. Higgins, the Belgian King and Queen, Israeli president Isaac Herzog, New Zealand’s Governor General and Prime Minister, alongside dozens more.
However, despite reports from Prince Harry and Meghan’s cheerleader Omid Scobie that the pair are invited, Hello! reports that they won’t be attending the state event.
The official event will see heads of state, foreign dignitaries and working members of the Royal Family in attendance.
A palace source confirmed Harry, Meghan and Prince Andrew’s absence by stating that only working royals will be at the extremely high profile event.
At the moment, it is yet to be announced what the dress code will be and if royals are required to don a tiara for the special event.
The statement read: “The King and The Queen Consort will host Heads of State and Official Overseas Guests at Buckingham Palace ahead of the State Funeral of Her Majesty The Queen. This will be an official state event.”
