Prince Harry and Meghan Markle just scored their first Hollywood awards nomination for their Netflix show. And it didn’t take long for their opponent Piers Morgan to react. Because the show focused on a critical view of the royal family, Morgan quickly turned to Twitter to throw shade.
Find out all about the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s awards nomination. And learn what Piers and other critics tweeted in response. Get all the details below.
Hollywood Critics Nominate Meghan And Harry’s Show For Award
Meghan Markle and Prince Harry just experienced a disappointment in getting cancelled by Spotify. However, amid the fallout, the Duchess and Duke of Sussex just got good news. And the Hollywood Critics Association nominated the couple’s Netflix documentary series Harry & Meghan for a TV award in the category for “Best Streaming Nonfiction Series,” reported Newsweek.
But Harry and Meghan face strong competition in that category. Their six-part documentary series will compete against Eugene Levy’s The Reluctant Traveler, Rainn Wilson’s Geography of Bliss and Jeremy Renner’s Rennervations. But the Duke and Duchess hope that their decision to share their romance and their exit from the royal family will pay off with an award.
However, other shows in that category include Apple TV’s Prehistoric Planet and Disney’s The 1619 Project. But even if they don’t win, the nomination represents Harry and Meghan receiving their first significant recognition from Hollywood critics for their Netflix show. The Duke and Duchess did everything from interviews to co-producing the series. And at the time, Meghan shared that she and Harry agreed to trust director Liz Garbus so that it would “go through their lens.”

Piers Morgan Throws Shade At Harry’s And Meghan’s Award Nod
However, in the wake of the news about Meghan and Harry’s award nomination, critic Piers Morgan sounded off. And he threw shade on Twitter. “Many congratulations to Meghan & Harry on being nominated for an award for trashing their families on TV. Truly heart-warming!” wrote Piers sarcastically.
But Morgan wasn’t alone in throwing shade at the couple. For instance, after the Hollywood Critics Association tweeted out the news of the shows nominated, several social media skeptics mocked that the couple got nominated in the nonfiction category, implying that Meghan and Harry lied in that documentary. “Made me laugh ! Only in the USA ! ‘Non fiction ‘,” wrote one social media critic.
And others shared that they hoped that other shows in that category win. For example, one noted, “I hope Rennervations wins for all the incredible things him and his wonderful team do to help young people, communities and making the world a better place ❤ .” And others expressed hope that the 1619 Project wins. “Harry and Meghan literally had the WORST RATINGS on IMDB and Rotten Tomatoes ,” wrote one such fan. “But hey, let’s ignore 1619 Project and worship some prince and his entitled wife .”
