Prince Harry And Meghan Markle Pay Back Their Debt And Silence British MPs

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have paid back the debt they owed on Frogmore Cottage, which came to £2.4 million, like bosses. Up until recently, Meghan and Prince Harry were paying back their debt, but uber slowly. In fact, it would have taken them more than 11 years to pay everything back at the rate they were formerly paying. This led to severe criticism of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex from across the political spectrum. Both Tories and Liberal Democrats called for Prince Harry and Meghan to pay back their debt immediately once it became known that they’d signed a mega-deal with the American media company, Netflix.

As Tory MP Sir Geoffrey Clifton-Brown said prior to Prince Harry’s final payment on the Cottage, “If the figures associated with the Netflix deal are correct then there is a case for it being paid back over five years rather than more than 10.

These sorts of sums are out of the reach of the vast majority of people in this country who have been trying to make ends meet during the coronavirus crisis.

While they may be sympathetic to Harry and Meghan’s situation, which is a delicate one, they will think that if the couple isn’t carrying out royal duties – and are making a lot of money in America, then they should start paying it back sooner.”

Apparently, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle chose the “sooner” option as it’s now been reported in multiple sources that the entirety of their debt has been repaid to the Sovereign Grant.

Harry And Meghan Markle Are Keeping Frogmore

As many will recall, Prince Harry and Meghan received Frogmore Cottage as a wedding gift from Queen Elizabeth. (It was more of a loan than a real gift though, considering the fact that it is still part of the Crown Estate.) In any case, Meghan and Prince Harry didn’t like the condition the estate was in, and so the couple decided to renovate.

Despite the fact that Prince Harry and Meghan have looked at, and have purchased other properties in the UK, Frogmore Cottage will evidently remain their official residence whenever they choose to grace Great Britain with their illustrious presence.

It’s believed by many that neither Prince Harry nor Meghan Markle would have had to repay the British taxpayers a penny if they had remained in the UK as senior members of the British Royal Family.

However, because the Duke and Duchess of Sussex chose to step down from their duties as part of The Firm, Queen Elizabeth penalized the couple. The agreement to repay the money on Frogmore came as part of the agreement Prince Harry and Meghan made during negotiations at Sandringham.

Harry’s Repayment May Not Stop Public Anger

Although Prince Harry and Meghan have now paid back everything they owe on Frogmore Cottage, it may not help raise their public image much. Many were angry at how Prince Harry and Meghan Markle chose to treat the historic property they were given. For instance, there was a huge outcry when it became known that Prince Harry had ordered that beams, floors, gas, and water replaced. Moreover, Meghan and Harry had five apartments restructured in order to form one large house.

In other words, following Harry and Meghan Markle’s renovation of Frogmore Cottage, nothing resembled the historical building that Queen Elizabeth had gifted them.
