Prince Harry And Meghan Markle Reject Palace “Private Citizens” Tag

On Monday, the Palace issued a statement to relevant senior stakeholders across Government, the military and Lord Lieutenancies regarding Prince Harry and Meghan’s continued role, or lack thereof, within the Monarchy.

A couple hours later, a series of reports came rushing out of the Sussex camp. One of them was that they do not accept the Palace’s decision to label them as “private citizens.”

They would, per reports, very much prefer to be known as “public figures.” You know, this is basically just like being a wolf the entire time and still crying wolf when it suits you.

What the Sussexes’ “Public Figure” Claim Could Mean As Tensions With the Palace Rumble On

As many fans have observed, Prince Harry and Meghan did not claim the label “public figures” over “private citizens” just because they’d had a change of heart.

They did it as a way to force RAVEC’s hand to provide them the 24/7 taxpayer-funded police protection they’d been drooling over for years.

At present though, the Sussexes would have preferred it if the King ended his letter with the proclamation that Harry and Meghan remain much-loved members of the Royal Family. Like the late Queen Elizabeth the II did, once-upon-a-time.

“The duke is understood to have taken particular issue with the notion that the couple were to be treated as private citizens. If that were the case, it was claimed, such formal guidance would not be required,” a source shared with The Telegraph.

“The Sussexes prefer the term ‘public figures’, and would have liked an acknowledgement that, on a personal level, they remained members of the Royal Family, despite no longer receiving public funding.”

Royal fans may well remember when Harry said that the Royal Family was a trap, and even likened it to a cross between the Truman show and the zoo.

On Meghan’s part, she wants to have her basic right to privacy, without a normal school run turning into a photo call.

“That doesn’t make me obsessed with privacy. That makes me a strong and good parent protecting my child,” she told The Cut in 2022.

So I guess we’re all probably wondering: what changed?
