Prince Harry And Meghan Markle Skip The State Banquet With The Trumps

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have made one thing pretty loud and clear: they’ve got other priorities in their life, at least when it comes to President Donald Trump and his family.

Prince Harry And Meghan Markle Absent From State Banquet

In fact, a lot of royal observers couldn’t help but notice that the Duke and Duchess of Sussex were absent during Monday’s night State Banquet with the United States President, despite being high-ranking members of the royal family. Here’s what you need to know.

While Meghan Markle is currently on her maternity leave (the Duchess gave birth to her son Archie Harrison back on May 6th), her husband Prince Harry was no where to be seen. However, he did briefly appear while the Trumps were checking out some of the American gifts that the British royal family have received over the years at Buckingham Palace.

Prince Harry Keeps Distance From Donald Trump

For a moment, Harry did look as though he was engaging in a conversation with Ivanka Trump but left the room after a few short minutes. He also kept his distance from Donald Trump, who just last week called his wife Meghan ‘nasty.’

And while a lot of critics think it’s rather odd that an American-born Duchess couldn’t find the time in her schedule to meet with the President of the United States during his official visit to London, others’ aren’t surprised at all.

That’s because back in 2016, Meghan stated that she was no fan of Trump. She called his politics divisive and even hinted that he was misogynistic. Donald Trump responded by telling The Sun in an interview last week, “I didn’t know she was nasty.” Trump later denied calling Markle nasty, despite audio evidence of the remark.

Trump Makes Not-So-Nice Comments About Princess Dianna In The Past

Many British and American media outlets have also pointed out that Trump had some very not-so-nice things to say about Prince William and Prince Harry’s mother Princess Diana and Kate Middleton in the past.

So far both Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have not made any comments about Trump’s visit to London or why they decided to skip the royal banquet. Either way, it doesn’t look like they will be saying anything at this point.

Today The Duke of Sussex visited the Royal Hospital Chelsea for the Founder’s Day Parade, an annual event celebrating the founding of the veterans hospital in 1681 by King Charles II. The Founder’s Day Parade is a day to celebrate ‘The Chelsea Pensioners’, the name for those veterans who live there, and an important reminder of the great debt we owe all whom have served their nation. More than 300 years on from its founding, @royalhospitalchelsea continues to provide exceptional care to soldiers in retirement. Today’s visit also coincides with the 75th anniversary of D-Day. It was especially poignant for The Duke, who served in the British Army for ten years, to visit with and honour six veterans of the Normandy Landing living at the hospital. In his speech today His Royal Highness shared these words with the Chelsea Pensioners: Don’t ever underestimate the joy that you bring to everyone you meet. You represent something really quite special, you are special, and society will always recognise that. That is an important part of your legacy….It’s a community that focuses on supporting each other with kindness, respect and compassion, as well as reaching out to serve the wider community….On this 75th Anniversary of D-Day, I can comfortably speak for everyone when I say we are honoured to be in the presence of six Normandy Landing veterans. Over 300 British Army Veterans live @royalhospitalchelsea – veterans who fought in the Second World War, and other conflicts including Korea, Malaya, Borneo, Northern Ireland, South Atlantic and the first Gulf War. Her Majesty The Queen, The Prince of Wales, The Duke of Cambridge and other members of The Royal Family have joined events in the UK and France to commemorate the 75th anniversary of D-Day. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are proud to support serving and former members of the Armed Forces. Positive communities and the @royalhospitalchelsea model of care, is critical to help veterans both young and old to maintain positive mental health and wellbeing. Thank you for your service, and for the sacrifices you and your families have made. #DDay75
