It was recently reported that Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have filed a trademark for their new charity. What is it called and what information is known about the foundation so far? Not much has been released, but here are all the details we have on the non-profit organization.

Royal Charity Separation

Harry and Meghan officially separated from the joint charity they operated with Prince William and Kate Middleton last June. It was created in 2009 by the two princes. Kate joined the charity following her marriage to William. Then, Meghan was also added as a patron when she became Harry’s wife.

It has already gone through a few name changes. Moving forward, it will now be known as The Royal Foundation of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge. The organization also received a new website address to reflect the name change.

Since they have separated from the organization, the couple has filed a trademark registration application for their new charity. It is called Sussex Royal The Foundation of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex. Although the application was dated June 21, it was not published until last week.

Details on Charity Trademark Registration

According to People magazine, the trademark will not only protect the charity images, name and reputation, but will allow them to do certain things and will protect printed materials. Some of these include holding charitable fundraisers as well as protecting trademark infringement on clothing and booklets. The trademark application also covers education and social health services.

In addition to protection, the trademark also allows the charity to take legal action against anyone who uses it without prior written consent.

Not much else is known about Harry and Meghan’s new charity. While gossip sites are busy speculating on bad blood, it isn’t quite as scandalous as that. Each couple simply has different objectives and goals. Having separate charities will allow them to focus 100 percent of their efforts where they feel it is most important.
