Prince Harry and Meghan Markle seem to be ignoring the fact that they spent roughly six years calling out the Royal Family on just about every media platform available to them.
But yeah, they’re back. They’re doing “royal” their own way, and they refuse to be stopped, even by the little detail that they haven’t exactly won their battle for 24/7 taxpayer-funded police protection.
Regardless of this, police officers reportedly had to step in when crowds gathered around the couple’s Range Rover.
Key Takeaways
Harry and Meghan visited Nottingham.
The couple attended three charity engagements.
Police reportedly managed crowds near their vehicle.
Their UK security remains controversial.
More public appearances could be planned.
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle Told to “Tuck In” During Nottingham Trip
For their first joint public outing since their reported return, Harry and Meghan chose to recreate one of their earliest public engagements.
Arriving in Nottingham, with Harry clad in a grey jacket and jeans and Meghan dressed head to toe in British luxury, the couple proceeded to attend three different events.
The former actress and her husband kicked off their engagements by visiting Community Recording Studio.
They followed that with a meeting with members of the Hubb Community Kitchen at the Himmah Hub food bank.
They concluded the eventful day by visiting the children’s charity Epic Partners on Edale Road.
The last event of the day reportedly drew police intervention as crowds gathered around their vehicle. Officers were reportedly heard telling people to “tuck in” and “keep shuffling back.”
However, Nottinghamshire Police have yet to publicly comment on the reported incident.
Interestingly, the couple’s Nottingham appearance has already sparked conflicting reactions.
While one report questioned Harry and Meghan’s public reception in Nottingham, another described a warmer welcome from supporters and schoolchildren.
The police involvement also comes amid ongoing questions about the Sussexes’ protection arrangements.
As previous reports about Harry and Meghan’s UK security dispute suggested, the couple’s concerns about police protection could continue to affect their future plans.
Sussex Insider Reveals Prince Harry and Meghan Markle Are Gearing Up for More Public Engagements
While Harry and Meghan’s return has strongly divided public sentiment, the couple reportedly don’t plan to stop anytime soon.
A friend of the couple claimed they could generate significant support for charities and suggested that more public appearances are planned.
The source also reportedly argued that the couple’s security requirements give their appearances the appearance of traditional royal engagements, even though they are no longer working royals.
Of course, Prince Harry’s previous UK visit without Meghan raised similar security questions, so this latest incident is likely to reignite that debate.
If you ask me, let them carry on.
As long as they’re not receiving public funding and they’re carrying out the engagements at their own expense, I don’t see any problem with that.
Eventually, they might run out of cash, and public interest could gradually die down.
Annemarie’s Take
I find it interesting that Harry and Meghan are back in the UK doing engagements that look remarkably similar to the royal duties they walked away from six years ago.
There’s nothing wrong with supporting charities, and those organizations certainly deserve the attention.
But I do think the security question is going to follow the Sussexes wherever they go.
They wanted to step away from royal life, yet their public appearances still require considerable planning and security arrangements.
The real question is whether they can continue this new version of royal life without the privileges that came with being working royals.
Do you think Harry and Meghan should continue holding royal-style engagements, or are they trying to recreate the royal life they left behind?
