Prince Harry On What Being British Means To Him
Prince Harry has lived in the US for five years, but even the years aren’t enough to change his core British values, as we learned during his speech at the British American Business Council’s (BABC) lunch on Friday.
The Prince, 41, took a subtle swipe at his family during his segment at the lunch, where he served as guest speaker.
“People sometimes ask if growing up with the royal family was a bit like [show creator] Julian’s [Fellowes] Downton Abbey,” Harry said to a room of around 200 businessmen and women. “Yeah, but only one of those worlds is filled with drama, intrigue, elaborate dinners [and] marriages to Americans — and the other is a TV show.”
After noting that the BABC lunch was the first Christmas party he’d attended in a while, he turned his thoughts to what it’s like living in America as a British citizen.

“For me, being British isn’t about where you physically stand, but what you stand for,” he said.
In addition to this, he touched on what it’s like joining the rest of the country to celebrate its Independence on July 4.
“It’s a new world to me, celebrating independence from Britain, and more specifically, independence from my great, great, great, great, great, great-grandfather,” he noted.
The upcoming Independence Day will be a special one for Americans, as it marks the 250th one, and as a token of the countries’ continued shared bond, President Donald Trump has extended an invitation to King Charles.
Buckingham Palace is yet to officially confirm whether the King plans to honor this invite, but if he does, it will possibly lead to a momentous occasion filled with nuances and the intrigue of history and tradition.
