After a wave of backlash, Prince Harry has finally broken his silence. The Duke of Cambridge defended his actions as he launched a new initiative towards sustainable travel.
“I spend 99 percent of my life traveling the world by commercial [flights],” Prince Harry stated while delivering a speech in Amsterdam last Tuesday, Sept. 3. The 34-year-old Duke of Sussex, who is also a first-time dad, added that there are instances when he needs to consider the safety of his family when traveling abroad.
Backlash Started When News Leaked When Couple Got Off Private Plane
As previously reported, the backlash started when news leaked that Prince Harry and Meghan Markle were spotted getting off a private plane in Ibiza. They brought their three-month-old baby along and stayed in a private villa as part of Meghan’s post-birthday celebration. A few days after returning home, they boarded another private flight–this time to vacation at Elton John’s lavish guesthouse in France.
Prince Harry seemed to shrug off his critics and implied that while he and his wife aren’t perfect, they are taking steps to balance their actions.
“We can all do better and while no one is perfect, we all have a responsibility for our own individual impact. The question is what we do to balance it out,” the prince added.
Prince Harry & Meghan Markle Have Promoted Sustainable Tourism
Interestingly, Prince Harry took a commercial plane going to Amsterdam for his event. As People reported, the Duke of Sussex was there to promote Travelyst, a new initiative dedicated to “transforming the future of travel for everyone.”
Harry and Meghan’s Sussex Royal Foundation partnered with key players in the travel industry to work towards a more sustainable way of traveling. Prince Harry is said to have been inspired by his own trips and saw the need to change the tourism industry by helping communities directly benefit from visitors and educating people about being more mindful of their travels.

The tabloids and much of the media are entirely too concerned about things that either don’t exist or that don’t matter. They make their money on the backs of people’s private lives. They have no shame.
