Call Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s first joint outing in the UK whatever you want – faux-royal outing, quasi-royal engagement, official engagement – the fact remains that it is too on the nose with its royal-leaning theatrics.
Even though you can’t actually compare it with a true royal outing, as aerial shots show that the engagement had a larger media turnout than ordinary well-wishers, it also happened to clash with an event King Charles was attending that same day.
But I know the question on everyone’s mind remains: If Harry and Meghan were bullied by the UK media so badly that one of them became suicidal, why are they back dancing and performing for them?
But perhaps these worries of prominent royal commentators were taken out of context, and now we have a Sussex insider telling us that the couple can do whatever they want.
No one said they can’t, but when two purportedly media-averse people are purposely declaring themselves public figures and doing the very thing that felt like a cross between “the Truman Show and the zoo,” then people have a right to start asking questions.
The couple’s return has already generated plenty of debate, particularly over what Harry and Meghan’s move back to Britain really means for the Royal Family.
Sussex Insider Reminds Fans That Prince Harry and Meghan Markle Are Not Taxpayer-Funded Like Other Royals
In August, Harry and Meghan returned to the UK for an extended period of time.
Archie and Lilibet are in school, and the parents are carrying out royal-style engagements, trying to drum up some positivity and reasons to justify their move.
“There is no confusion – on their part – about why they’re doing these sorts of engagements,” a friend of the couple said, adding, “It’s very simple. They are doing what they want, when they want, how they want. They aren’t taxpayer funded like others, so why shouldn’t they live their lives the way choose?”
“Some people get very angry at the idea that they should dare continue to show up and support causes they have been associated with for years, like it is in some way a bad thing to bring a spotlight to a community recording studio or a food bank Nottingham.
“I don’t get the outrage. They’re fundamentally good people doing good work when they can for good causes,” they explained.
The Sussexes’ return has also raised questions about their royal status, especially after King Charles reportedly clarified Harry and Meghan’s role within the monarchy.
However, public engagements won’t be the only thing the couple will be focusing on, as reports say Meghan is planning to make her acting comeback.
In fact, she’s reportedly already reading scripts and trying to decide which one would boost her comeback exponentially.
There has already been speculation about Meghan’s possible return to acting and her Hollywood ambitions, suggesting the Duchess of Sussex may have more than royal-style engagements on her agenda.
Annemarie’s Take
Harry and Meghan certainly have every right to live their lives however they choose. But I can understand why their return to royal-style public appearances is raising questions.
After everything they said about the pressures of royal life and the British media, it’s interesting to see them embracing such public engagements again.
Do you think Harry and Meghan are simply supporting worthwhile causes, or are they trying to recreate their former royal lives without the responsibilities? Share your thoughts below!
