Prince Harry Rants Against Tabloids’ “Illegal Tactics” Against Him

British royal family news reveals that Prince Harry has a very important television date coming up. No, not tonight’s ESPY awards, the duke appears in an ITV documentary on July 25 to talk about his lawsuit against Mirror Group Newspapers (MGN).

The case revolves around a phone hacking scandal and the Independent reports that the Ginger Judas speaks on his “mission to continue his fight to expose the illegal tactics of Britain’s tabloid press.”

The show is called Tabloids On Trial and marks Harry’s first major interview following the end of his court case against MSN.

ITV News’s Rebecca Barry interviews Harry and his fellow plaintiff Hugh Grant, Charlotte Church, and Paul Gascoigne.

Harry sued MGN “claiming journalists at its publications were linked to methods including phone hacking, so-called “blagging” – gaining information by deception – and use of private investigators for unlawful activities.”

Last December, Judge Fancourt ruled that the phone hacking was “widespread and habitual” and that Harry’s phone was hacked “to a modest extent” awarding him £140,600 in damages.

It was determined that 15 articles carried content gained via unlawful information gathering, and MGN and Harry settled the remainder of his claim in February. It was reported that Harry walked away with “a substantial additional sum” plus legal costs.

It added: “ITV News’s Rebecca Barry meets high-profile celebrities including Hugh Grant, Charlotte Church and Paul Gascoigne as well as people catapulted into the public eye, whose lives were ripped apart by newspapers.”

In a statement in February, Harry stated: “Our mission continues. I believe in the positive change it will bring for all of us. It is the very reason why I started this, and why I will continue to see it through to the end.”

Harry’s Next Lawsuit

Harry, Sir Elton John, and others are now suing the publisher of the Daily Mail over similar charges. Associated Newspapers Limited (ANL) is accused of allegedly hiring private investigators to place listening devices inside cars and “blagging.”

ANL has denied the allegations and the case is in the preliminary stages. In yet another instance, Harry alleges that the News Group Newspapers (NGN), the publisher of The Sun and the now-defunct News Of The World, carried on similar activities against him. That trial is scheduled to be heard next January.
