Prince Harry just confirmed that one of his mates was his best man and he didn’t ask his brother, who, according to him, was “sulking” the night before his wedding.
Prince Harry Said It Was “A Bare-faced” Lie That People Were Made To Believe He Was the Best Man At Brother’s Wedding
Prince Harry is telling “his truth” about growing up with a big brother in his memoir “Spare”. Apart from recalling moments growing up with his brother – like their first day of school – he also wants to set the record straight that he wasn’t his brother’s best man at his extravagant 2011 wedding to Catherine Middleton.
Yes, he did stand by his brother, stayed over at his place the night before the wedding and even went out with him to greet the crowds the evening before, but do not even try to think that he played the role a best man should.
According to Harry’s recollections of the wedding, which by the way has been viewed by millions around the world, William’s close friends pals James Meade and Thomas Van Straubenzee delivered the traditional speech at the reception.
In the 557-page book he also claimed that his role was to basically introduce them as a mere compere.
Moving on to 2018 when he finally tied the knot with former American actress Meghan Markle, he also said that he chose a close friend over his brother. The only difference was that William didn’t want to stay the night and didn’t greet the crowds together with him.
He also implied that his brother failed to attend a drinks get-together he organised with friends the eve of his big day at five-star Coworth Park Hotel in Ascot because he was sulking.
When William blamed family commitments and failed to show, Harry remembered asking “what was really happening?”
“Was he sulking because he wasn’t my best man? Was he annoyed because I had asked my old friend Charlie instead? (The Royal Family announced Willy was the best man as they had done with me when he and Kate got married. Did that have something to do with it?).”
The man Harry claims is actually his best man is believed to be Charlie van Straubenzee, his friend since their days at Ludgrove Pep School. However, Charlie has always been believed to be his usher.
