It looks like Prince Harry’s priorities are a little different than the priorities of other people. Even though the Duke of Sussex was scheduled to be in a London courtroom today for his trial against the British tabloids, he failed to show up.
Instead, reports say that he arrived in London a day late because he wanted to attend his daughter Lilibet’s birthday in California on Sunday. Keep reading below for everything you need to know.
Prince Harry Skipped His Court Case For Daughter Lilibet’s Birthday?
Prince Harry seems to be hellbent on getting his revenge on the British tabloids, but he wasn’t even there on the first day of his major court case against the Mirror Group.
According to new reports, Harry flew from Los Angeles last night and won’t give any evidence until Tuesday. The opening will take about three hours. However, Justice Fancourt says that he was quite surprised that Harry did not give any evidence on Monday, “In light of direction at early stage.”
What’s more, the judge also said that it was “anticipated” that opening submissions would finish before the end of Monday. This means that the Duke of Sussex could be required to give evidence, “which is why I directed that the first witness should be available.”
Unfortunately for the press, it’s also been noted that there is no microphone in the witness box meaning journalists cannot hear the witnesses answers.
Needless to say, many royal fans and critics alike sure have had a lot to say about the matter on social media. Some have commented with, “I don’t know how it works in the UK, but in a US court if you don’t show up to testify you will at minimum be held in contempt and fined, and quite honestly if the plaintiff can’t be bothered to show up to testify when require a judge could just throw the case out entirely.”
What’s Next For Prince Harry?
Another critic wrote, “So far no real evidence to back any of the fairly melodramatic claims. A lot of talk about Princess Diana which is not necessarily evidence of Harry’s case. All the hallmarks of phone hacking being used about select news articles being presented – that is not solid evidence,” along with, “Well he’s been banging on about wanting a normal life as a normal citizen. Should a normal citizen fail to arrive at court, it would be deemed contempt of court, so he should be treated the same, doesn’t an arrest warrant be issued then? He just disregarded the judge’s request? Overprivileged, selfish brat.”
