British royal family news reveals that Prince Harry has resigned from the Sentebale charity he became involved with two decades ago.
It’s much more lucrative to merch things, and we predict he starts selling griege shirts with Meghan Markle on her ShopMy account in 1, 2, 3 …
In 2006 Prince Seeiso of Lesotho founded the charity with the goal of aiding African orphans.
Among its activities is surveillance of poverty and AIDS in Lesotho and Botswana. Last year the Duke of Sussex went to New York for a Sentebale event but otherwise has not been very involved since coming to Hollywood.
Harry No Longer With Sentebale
Why did Harry resign from the charity? According to Daily Mail he “quit Sentebale in solidarity with his co-founder and the entire board of trustees after ‘the relationship between the charity’s trustees and the chair of the board broke down beyond repair, creating an untenable situation.’”
The chair of the board of trustees is Sophie Chandauka, a Zimbabwe-born lawyer, who reportedly was not endorsed by the trustees. In turn they “wanted her to step down, prompting her to sue.”
Harry Leaves Sentebale
The outlet reports that the disagreement began with the decision to move Sentebale’s “fundraising operation to Africa and several key figures then walked away from the organisation.”
A joint statement seen by The Times but not officially released, reveals that Harry and Prince Seeiso wrote: “What’s transpired is unthinkable. We are in shock that we have to do this.”
The statement went on to say that “With heavy hearts, we have resigned from our roles as patrons of the organisation until further notice, in support of and solidarity with the board of trustees who have had to do the same.
It is devastating that the relationship between the charity’s trustees and the chair of the board broke down beyond repair, creating an untenable situation.”
What is Sentebale?
Prince Harry apparently chose to join the trustees because they “acted in the best interest” by asking Chandauka to step down.
Former trustees Timothy Boucher, Damian West, Mark Dyer, Audrey Kgosidintsi, and Kelello Lerotholi stated that standing down was a difficult decision: “nothing short of devastating for all of us, but we see no other path forward as the result of our loss in trust and confidence in the chair of the board.”
Today a spokesman for Sentebale said that they had not received notice of Harry’s resignation which comes after Sentabale’s chief executive Richard Miller quit after five years tenure. Weeks prior to that, the overseas development minister, Baroness Chalker, stepped down.
A Sentebale spokesman said the group is undergoing a “restructuring” of the board to include “experts with the capabilities and networks to accelerate Sentebale’s transformation agenda.”
