Elton John has been a longstanding friend to several members of the Royal Family. His closeness to the late Princess Diana prompted the Palace to invite him to perform “Candle in the Wind” at her funeral in 1997.
This friendship endured through Diana’s sons, and when Prince Harry was getting married to former American actress Meghan Markle in 2018, Elton John made the name in the list of people invited. He was not only one of the attendees, but he actually performed for the couple on their happy day.
The following year, the couple joined him at his home in the South of France.
Since then, both parties have been very supportive of one another, with John’s husband David Furnish working closely with Markle on her since-canceled animation project “Pearl”.
Prince Harry And Meghan Markle Show Support For Elton John During His Farewell Tour
Elton John has been in the spotlight for so many decades you can’t actually count them on one hand, (if you doubt me count six on one hand).
But finally, the “Rocketman” will be saying goodbye to the stage in a spectacular way.
As he embarks on this farewell tour, Harry and Meghan have taken the time to shoot a short and sweet video thanking the star for his contributions to music and to their personal life and wishing him the best down the road.
Meghan began the message by congratulating the musician, 75, before Harry added a “congratulations” of his own.
Meghan then continued: “And we are just so proud of you. We’re so grateful that we were able to see you on your farewell tour also.”
Leaning towards their personal affiliations, Harry said: “And thank you for entertaining everybody for so many decades. Thank you for being the friend that you were for my mum, thank you for being our friend. Thank you for being friend to our kids and thank you for entertaining people right around the world.”
He concluded, “Even though this is officially your retirement, this will not be your last gig, we know that. But we love you and congratulations on an incredible career.”
Other Stars And Public Figures Who Shared Well-wishes To Elton John As He Embarks On His Farewell Tour
Prince Harry and Meghan are not the only stars to send Elton John their well wishes.
President Joe Biden and First Lady Dr. Biden also congratulated the “Sacrifice” singer on his very successful career.
Biden said that he is one of the “greatest of all time,” and “not just because of your iconic songs,” he added, hinting at the star’s advocacy and fundraising for AIDs and HIV via his charity, “[but] because of your absolute courage. You turned pain into purpose and your advocacy has literally saved millions of lives.”
Dr. Biden added, “Elton, as you close this chapter of your story, I hope you know that your legacy has no end. From the timeless songs that have given voice to our joys and sorrows to how you’ve inspired countless people to stand up and speak out. You will always be here on our playlist and in our hearts.”
Tony Bennett also congratulated Elton John on his successful career.
