Not to be confused with “illegal alien,” Prince Harry may soon be considered a “resident alien” in just under three weeks from now, according to reports. For those who don’t know already, this is a term that relates to Prince Harry’s tax status within the United States of America.
The exact definition for the term and its criteria that Prince Harry is about to meet is, “a person who is a U.S. citizen or a foreign national who meets either the “green card” or “substantial presence” test as described in IRS Publication 519, U.S. Tax Guide for Aliens.”
Obviously, Prince Harry is not a US citizen. He hasn’t even applied for US citizenship even though he’s married to Meghan Markle, who starred for a time on the popular legal drama, “Suits.” Moreover, Prince Harry hasn’t applied for an America Green Card either. However, Harry and Meghan Markle have both established a substantial presence in the USA since moving to the exclusive neighborhood of Montecito in Santa Barbara. There, as most know by now, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle purchased a home at a $14.5 Million price point.
Prince Harry’s About to Be a Resident Alien
According to calculations concerning the length of the time, Prince Harry’s been in the USA, he and Meghan Markle have been in California for about 159 days or so. This is ever since the Duke and Duchess of Sussex left Vancouver Island in Canada for Los Angeles. If someone stays in the USA for longer than 183 days, America’s Internal Revenue Service (IRS) begins to take note. That means Prince Harry and whatever income he has could come under scrutiny for tax purposes.
It’s been suggested that Prince Harry could return to the UK in order to avoid having the pay American taxes. Indeed, there are now reports that Prince Harry, Meghan Markle, and their son Prince Archie will be returning to Great Britain in March of 2021 for “an extended period.” However, that would be far past the 183-day mark for Prince Harry and thus, the issue of dealing with America’s IRS is still looming over the duke.

Prince Harry Heading Back To The UK
Now, whether Prince Harry ends up having to deal with the IRS or not, royal expert Omid Scobie has suggested that the prince and his family will be traveling to the UK to attend a number of events throughout the summer. Unfortunately, there were no reports that Prince Harry’s intention to head back to England has a thing to do with a desire to be around his family.
That said, Prince Harry will likely be forced to be around his brother Prince William whether the two have actually made amends or not over the reported feud between the two. One event Prince Harry and Meghan are expected to attend grouping the Color, which is a traditional celebration of Queen Elizabeth’s birthday and in which regiments of the British and Commonwealth armies participate.
