Royal family news recently has focused on answering one key question. And that concerns if Prince Harry and Meghan Markle would attend King Charles’ coronation. However, until now, the Duke of Sussex and Duchess of Sussex managed to keep the world waiting for the answer.
But after that spotlight-stealing delay, Harry and Meghan finally feel ready to share their coronation plans. And the event will take place with just one of the Sussexes attending. Find out who below.
Prince Harry Plays ‘Coy’ About King Charles Coronation
Will they or won’t they? For weeks, Meghan Markle and Prince Harry played “coy” about how to respond to the coronation invitations. But the Duchess of Sussex and Duke of Sussex finally announced if they will attend King Charles III’s historical event, reported Us magazine.
However, the 38-year-old Duke of Sussex will participate in the May 6 festivities without Meghan, 41, revealed Buckingham Palace. And the palace released a statement confirming the news. “Buckingham Palace is pleased to confirm that The Duke of Sussex will attend the Coronation Service at Westminster Abbey on May 6th,” said a spokesperson.
But what about Meghan? The palace included the Duchess of Sussex in the official statement. “The Duchess of Sussex will remain in California with Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet,” shared the palace, referring to Meghan’s and Harry’s son and daughter. The confirmation comes after Meghan and Harry received their invitation in March, then delayed on giving their RSVP.
Prince Harry’s Spokesperson Refused At First To Give RSVP
Some royal family watchers accused Prince Harry of deliberately delaying his response to the invite in order to hold onto the spotlight. And they pointed to the statement from his spokesperson. “I can confirm The Duke has recently received email correspondence from His Majesty’s office regarding the coronation,” said the spokesperson after the invite arrived. But the rep added, “An immediate decision on whether The Duke and Duchess will attend will not be disclosed by us at this time.”
However, Prince Harry had discussed his views on whether he would attend King Charles’ coronation previously. Because of his rift with the royal family, Harry recognized that his attendance could become controversial. And Harry’s memoir, Spare, coupled with his interviews fueled his feud.
But Harry offered hope for the future. And he shared, “There’s a lot that can happen between now and then” in a reference to King Charles’ coronation. “But, you know, the door is always open,” he added. However, Harry put the burden of mending the rift on the royal family. And he stated, “The ball is in their court. There’s a lot to be discussed and I really hope that they are willing to sit down and talk about it.”
