Well, there goes another one of Harry’s recollections. According to Prince Harry, there was a time during his army training days when “Booley threw the aircraft into stall” with no warning.
Responding to his claims is the named Ex-Sergeant Major Michael Booley.
Shocked Army Instructor Debunks Prince Harry’s Account Of Impromptu Training Flights
The man sitting next to Harry during his dramatic account of a “suicide” training flight has spoken up to say his account of that moment was a fantasy.
Refuting Harry’s claim that he wasn’t told about a manuever beforehand, Booley said: “I am staggered by this. In shock even.”
In his bestselling biography “Spare”, Harry claims that his Army instructor deliberately stalled their Slingsby T67 Firefly propeller plane without telling him beforehand.
Detailing his shock at the unplanned manuever, Harry writes: “I stared at him. What in the absolute—? Was this an aborted suicide attempt?’ No, he said gently. This was the next stage in my training.”
However, Harry’s account is far from how Booley recalls that particular situation, or any other situation like it, to be sure.
Major Michael Booley Sets The Record Straight On Harry’s Tall-tale
Michael Booley, despite Harry being high in his regards, couldn’t let the royal’s account of a “surprise” flight training stand.
“Whilst the book compliments me, the recollection of the sorties and lessons is inaccurate, I’m afraid,” Booley told the Sunday Mirror. “It’s important to highlight that nothing in the cockpit comes as a surprise.”
“Every sortie is thoroughly briefed beforehand, every single aspect. The sortie is flown exactly as per that brief. The only time there are surprises is later in the syllabus, not as stated in the book, when emergencies are introduced.”
“Engine failures are practised before the first solo obviously, in case the student suffers one,” Michael, 57, concluded.
He served in the military for 33 years and taught Harry how to pilot the Firefly in 2009.
