Prince Harry’s Drama At the Wellchild Awards Faces Criticism Two Years Later

In 2020, Prince Harry gave a speech during the WellChild Awards, where he went emotional upon remembering his wife’s pregnant state. As he and Meghan prepares to head back to the UK for this year’s awards, critics are unburying his emotional clip and calling it dramatized.

Prince Harry Faces Backlash After Fans Congratulate Him For Appearing Emotional During WellChild Awards Speech

Earlier this month, Harry and Meghan’s spokesperson revealed that the couple will be traveling to the UK to attend two events organized by charities close to their hearts.

On September 5, Harry and Meghan will attend the One Young World 2022 Summit in Manchester. On September 8, the pair will take part in the WellChild Awards ceremony.

In between these dates, they’ll be in Germany for an Invictus Games related event. Since stepping down as a senior royal in 2020, Harry has continued to support WellChild, for which he has been the patron of since 2007.

Last year, he attended the WellChild Awards ceremony solo, after joining his brother Prince William to unveil their late mother’s statue at Kensington Sunken Gardens on June 25.

Harry said: “Since becoming patron of WellChild in 2007, this organization and the people within it have held an extraordinarily special place in my heart.”

“I wasn’t a father at the time, and yet the stories of these children and parents transcended that. I didn’t need to be a dad to feel the impact of this invaluable work. Now as a father of two, I feel all the more connected, inspired and in awe of the resilience of these families, who power through indescribable challenges with the support of WellChild.”

But it was his speech at the 2020 awards that drew criticism, where he happened to grow emotional when he described inspirational children and how becoming a father has made him more understanding towards suffering children.

A popular royal commentator and YouTuber known as According2Taiz wrote, “I’m so sick of reading about Harry crying at the Wellchild awards! He clearly laughs, snorts then pretends to fake cry with the worst possible ‘I’m really sad face’ I’ve ever seen! Even his wife could act better! Harry sniggered at someone in the audience, probably Meghan!”
