Expert Weighs In On Prince William And Prince Harry’s Ongoing Rift
Harry is back in the UK, and he’s made himself very difficult to ignore during these past few weeks.
I mean, for a self-proclaimed hater of the media and cameras, he’s doing a lot of work to not only get himself into the news cycle but to keep himself there.
As previous reports about Harry’s efforts to reconcile with William have suggested, repairing their relationship may be easier said than done.
From the Sussexes’ first engagement clashing with King Charles’ schedule to Harry’s interview with GQ magazine arriving the same day the King hosted a state visit, his timing is enough to raise eyebrows.
However, the Sussexes’ representatives have indicated that GQ controlled the interview’s publication date.
Tom Sykes, European Editor at Large of The Daily Beast and author of The Royalist Substack, spoke to Page Six about the ongoing family feud.
Sykes said he would be surprised if William responded publicly, noting that the Prince of Wales typically remains silent on the subject.
And as previous coverage of William’s silence regarding Harry’s return suggests, this isn’t a new approach for the future king.
However, just because William prefers to remain silent doesn’t necessarily mean the entire Harry situation isn’t something that frustrates him.
Sykes believes William may find Harry’s public comments particularly difficult to accept because they place pressure on him to reconcile.
According to the royal commentator, addressing family disagreements through a magazine interview is unlikely to repair their relationship.
Sykes also indicated that William and Harry haven’t spoken since 2022, suggesting the latest public plea may not change their situation.
Of course, the question of whether William and Harry should finally move past their feud continues to divide royal watchers.
Harry, for his part, didn’t see his public reconciliation plea as something targeting any member of the Royal Family.
During the interview, he suggested that some people don’t want reconciliation to happen, which led to speculation that he meant his older brother, William.
However, Harry’s spokesperson clarified to Page Six that his comments were general and weren’t intended as criticism of William or anyone else in the family.
Whether Harry’s latest remarks help mend the relationship or create even more tension remains to be seen.
Annemarie’s Take
I have to wonder whether Harry really thinks discussing his family problems in another major interview is the best way to repair these relationships.
If William has chosen not to respond publicly, I can understand why he might find these repeated reconciliation discussions frustrating.
On the other hand, Harry has every right to express his desire to make peace with his family.
But I think there’s a difference between saying you want reconciliation and actually sitting down privately to work things out.
Perhaps the next step should happen away from the cameras.
Do you think Prince Harry’s latest interview will help repair his relationship with Prince William, or has he made things worse?
