Prince Philip and Queen Elizabeth

Royals news reveals that Prince Philip and Queen Elizabeth celebrate their 72nd wedding anniversary today. However, the royal couple isn’t enjoying the day together. Instead, they are 110 miles apart. Keep reading to discover why they are apart on their special day.

Royals Wedding Anniversary Spent Apart

Even though Elizabeth, 93, is still performing her royal duties, her husband, Philip, 98, has retired. The Queen spends her 72nd wedding anniversary in London. Meanwhile, Philip is 110 miles away in Sandringham, Norfolk at the estate’s Wood Farm. Several years ago, renovations took place to make things easier for a man of his age.

Prince Andrew’s Interview About Jeffrey Epstein

According to People magazine, the royal couple has spent decades celebrating special milestones together. So, it wasn’t disappointing that their wedding anniversary was spent apart; it was just business. However, some sources claim that Elizabeth would have welcomed her husband’s support following Prince Andrew’s BBC interview about his friendship with the late Jeffrey Epstein.

As the public knows, Epstein was a financier who was awaiting trial on several sex charges. His death was ruled a suicide, but there has been some debate on that. While a friendship with someone like that would be frowned upon, Andrew spoke about it with absolutely no regrets.

Prince Philip’s Stress

An insider told the Daily Express, “I’m sure it’s been good for his health not to be there getting involved in the day-to-day stresses and strains but I think the Queen has missed his hands-on approach to family matters. He might have been a much stronger voice advising Andrew if he had been around more.”

Royal Wedding: Prince Philip and Queen Elizabeth

Philip and Elizabeth were married right after WWII. At the time, millions of Brits were coping with the aftermath of bomb-destroyed cities. In addition, food was rationed and was in short supply at times. The November 20 wedding was the first major event since the battle ended.

One of Elizabeth’s bridesmaids, Lady Pamela Hicks recalled the royal wedding. She told People,

“With her bridal dress and tiara on her wedding day, she was a knockout. And, of course, Philip was every girl’s dream Viking prince.”
