Prince Philip Doesn’t Want Prince Charles To Be King!

As the UK Royal Family’s firstborn child of Queen Elizabeth, Prince Charles is her heir apparent and will succeed his mother when the time comes. Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip have four children together: Prince Charles, Princess Anne, born in 1950, Prince Andrew, born in 1960, and Prince Edward, born in 1964.

It has been speculated that Prince Philip didn’t have a particularly close bond with Charles and that he actually wanted another one of his children to be heir to the British throne. Which one would that be?

Of Charles’ childhood, he has said that he was raised by his nannies. In 1994, Charles told his biographer Jonathan Dimbleby that he and his parents were, “emotionally estranged” and wished he’d had the loving affection they did not offer him.

Charles’ account of his younger years has been backed up by eyewitness accounts. Philip’s cousin, Countess Mountbatten told the Daily Mail, “A resilient character such as Philip, toughened by the slings and arrows of life, who see being tough as a necessity for survival, want[ed] to toughen up his son. And his son is very sensitive. It hasn’t been easy for either of them.”

Additionally, Charles let his father down in the sports department as well. Philip wished his kids to be great athletes but that title is one that could not be conveyed on Charles. In contrast, Princess Anne excelled at sports. According to royal watcher Ingrid Seward, Anne knocked the socks off her dad after becoming, “a first-class tennis and lacrosse player and, most notably, an Olympic three-day event rider.”

She also notes that some in the royal family have, “long wished that Princess Anne was the heir to the throne,” with Philip being one of them.

Where Is Princess Anne’s Place In The Line Of Succession?

But it is unlikely that Anne will ever inherit the right to sit in the big girl’s chair. That’s because she has a long line ahead of her and she herself may want nothing to do with the role anyway.

As far as the line of succession to the British throne goes, Anne is behind her three brothers, all of their children, and all of their children’s children.

Which is a roundabout way of saying that she is currently 14th in line, a queue that keeps on growing!

Charles may never be king. Do the math he's in his 70s and William is in his 30s.
