British Royal family news reveals the Duke of Edinburgh passed away on April 9 at the age of 99, just a few weeks shy of his 100th birthday. His death certificate revealed that he had died of old age. He lived a long life of service, becoming Britain’s longest consort, as he had been married to the Queen for more than seven decades.
It was a painful blow for the Queen, who powered through it with the help of close relatives. Months later on and the royals are paying tribute to Prince Philip by showing up to drive-in movie nights in the Duke’s favorite vehicle, Land Rover, and even remembering the man that he was.

The snap showed that the thank you note came with a picture that Prince Philip had taken in 2012, which was lined with a black frame – to represent mourning.
“The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge thank you for your kind words following the death of The Duke of Edinburgh,” the royal couple’s note began. “Their Royal Highnesses have been incredibly moved by the many thoughtful messages they have received in recent weeks. They will all miss their much loved grandfather and great-grandfather, but your message has provided great comfort at this difficult time.”

“My grandfather’s century of life was defined by service – to his country and Commonwealth, to his wife and Queen, and to our family,” the message read. “I feel lucky to have not just had his example to guide me, but his enduring presence well into my own adult life–both through good times and the hardest days.”
“I will always be grateful that my wife had so many years to get to know my grandfather and for the kindness he showed her,” Prince William shared at the time. “I will never take for granted the special memories my children will always have of their great-grandpa coming to collect them in his carriage and seeing for themselves his infectious sense of adventure as well as his mischievous sense of humour!”
“My grandfather was an extraordinary man and part of an extraordinary generation. Catherine and I will continue to do what he would have wanted and will support The Queen in the years ahead. I will miss my Grandpa, but I know he would want us to get on with the job.”
