Prince William Invests Millions To House The Homeless

British royal family news divulges that Prince William is putting his money where his mouth is, vowing to spend $4M to house the homeless in the U.K. The Prince Of Wales announced his ambitious plan on Monday, hours after attending the BAFTAS without his wife Princess Kate who is recovering at home following abdominal surgery.

Fox News Digital reports that William plans to build two dozen new homes in Cornwall, England, with the funds coming from his Duchy of Cornwall estate.

The project gets underway in September of this year with the first buildings ready to occupy by fall 2025. The prince has spoken about visiting homeless shelters with his mother, Princess Diana, when he was a child.

Following in Diana’s footsteps, William is the patron of the Centrepoint charity in London and for his 40th birthday, he sold copies of The Big Issue, which supports the homeless, on the streets of London.

William’s project is part of his five-year goal to end homelessness in the U.K. To this end, the Duchy of Cornwall is teaming with St. Petrocs, a local Cornish charity, on the costly venture. The homes will be built in Nansledean, Newquay, in southwest England.

Ben Murphy, estate director at the Duchy of Cornwall said “As one of his key priorities for the Duchy of Cornwall, Prince William asked us to address the homelessness challenge within Cornwall and other areas where the estate resides.”

He added The shortage of social rent and private rented properties are widely considered to be the main causes of increasing homelessness across the country, which is why we are proud to launch this project alongside ambitious plans to unlock more affordable and attainable homes across our estate.”

The Duchy of Cornwall estate, reportedly worth $1 billion, was passed to William upon the death of his grandmother, Queen Elizabeth after England’s longest-reigning monarch died in 2022 at age 96.

According to People magazine, the Duchy’s income supports William, his family, and pays for his public duties and staff costs: “it provides an estimated $30 million income for William, his wife Kate Middleton and their three children Prince George, 10, Princess Charlotte, 8, and Prince Louis, 5.”
