William has performed his role almost to perfection during the pandemic and the queen is nearly 95 years old which places her at higher risk of contracting coronavirus
William Wants To Be More Than Window Dressing As He WaitS To Be Monarch
According to Katie Nicholson, William took a step beyond eye candy status when he debuted the Earthshot Prize days ago. The £50million prize is offered to great minds who can solve environmental issues over the next decade and she thinks it can cement his legacy.
His father Prince Charles has been an environmental advocate for decades but he has never launched an initiative of this scope.
To his demerit, Charles wrote to several Government ministers about his concerns which were seen as a violation of the constitutional monarchy’s neutrality. William has incurred no such wrath with his Earthshot Prize, although Charles’ other son, Harry, has been following in his footsteps. Without accomplishing much more than shooting off his mouth, Harry has been singled out this month as having “interfered” in the upcoming November Presidential election.
In contrast, the Queen has enjoyed worldwide diplomatic respect by rarely voicing her personal opinions. Many saw Harry’s arrogant preaching about the election as poisoning the well of goodwill the monarchy has built up.
According to a royal source the Queen “Very Much Believes That The Future Of The Monarchy Lies In William”
Royal watcher Katie Nicholl wrote in the Daily Mail in 2009 that, “William said he wanted to be more than just an ‘ornament’ who ‘turned up and opened things’ when he took over royal duties and would prefer to ‘make a difference’.” While this could be seen as an indication William wants to follow in his activist father’s footsteps, he told the BBC in 2016 that the Queen was his role model.”
William said, “I’ve got my grandmother who takes more of a passive role. She’s above politics and is very much away from it. And then I’ve got my father, who minds an awful lot about the charities he’s involved in and really digs down into his charitable areas as much as you can.”
If William can strike a balance between Charles’ passion and Elizabeth’s objectivity, his legacy will be much more than a shiny bulb on the royal family tree.
