Prince William Visits The Welsh Guards For The First Time In 2023

Prince William took on the position of Colonel to the Welsh Guards in December 2022. At the time, he took over the position from his father, King Charles, who had held the post since 1975.

Recently, he attended the St. Davids’s Day parade which was his first visit since his appointment. The heir to the throne was accompanied by his wife, Kate Middleton, the Princess of Wales.

Prince William Comes From A Long Line Of Military Duties

Queen Elizabeth serves as the head of the Armed Forces and actually joined the Auxiliary Territorial Service in 1945. Subsequently, Charles and Andrew followed a family tradition by serving in the navy. Meanwhile, Prince Harry served for ten years in the army.

If you don’t know, his older brother attended Sandhurst and later joined the Royal Air Force and the Royal Navy. Princess Anne, long adored by loyal the British public, also undertakes her duty with the King’s Royal Hussars.

Clearly, military experience is an important part of the lives of the Royals with their attendance
at military parades being far from unusual. This week, Prince William and his wife, Kate Middleton made a first formal appearance with the Welsh Guards. Extremely popular, the couple who raise three kids together found a lot of love from royal family fans when they attended a significant parade in Wales.

Prince William At A Parade As Colonel Of The Welsh Guards

The Royal Family Instagram account reported on March 2, the future King addressed the member of the 109-year-old regiment. Their royal Colonel said, “I am both honoured (Br) and delighted to be standing here in front of you today as your new Colonel.” Next, he honored his father, saying, “I’m sorry that my father couldn’t be here with us here today to say farewell.”

Prince William, who looked very smart in his uniform added that his father would have mentioned “his fierce pride and admiration for you all.” However, times changed with new responsibilities, as the King of England.  The statement also talked about Kate Middleton, The Princess of Wales, who also “met with families from the Regiment.” Interestingly, she handed out some leeks to the armed forces.

Plenty of people went to the comments section of the post. One of them wrote, “How utterly beautiful Your Royal Highnesses. Bless you as you continue the work of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth with grace and honour (sic). She would be so proud. ❤️.”

Meanwhile, another admirer of Prince William noted, “That would have been a very eventful day for all involved. Great photos. The princess of Wales looks absolutely stunning . .”

Another person seemed intrigued as to what the royal couple would hand out leeks. Well, Historic UK explains that “the leek is…widely recognized as the national symbol of Wales.”
