British royal family news shows that United Kingdom Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie are bearing the ongoing burden of their parent’s decision for them, one they had no say in.
What did Sarah Ferguson, the Duchess of York, and Prince Andrew do to their kids? Basically, they decided to dunk them in the royals waters, choosing to have them raised with “privileges” and given the titles of HRHs. Not all parents do so. Some, like Princess Anne, chose to save her kids the grief of being burdened with absurd scrutiny and outdated convention by foregoing their titles.
Fergie And Andrew Made A Key Decision That Saddled Beatrice And Eugenie With Scrutiny And Scorn
Because they are royals in every sense of the word, Beatrice and Eugenie have endured public criticism over their lifestyle and spending according to a new documentary. Channel 5’s “Beatrice and Eugenie: Pampered Princesses?” narrator Glynis Barber said, “The Duke and Duchess of York thought it only right their children should have all the privileges of senior royals.”
She added, “Prince Andrew’s insistence that his daughters are treated as senior royals would lead to criticism of the princesses as they grew older.”
Backing up this claim, royal watcher Ingrid Seward said, “Prince Andrew’s children would be royal highnesses and princesses unless he said, ‘look, I don’t want them to have titles.’
Princess Anne Decided Not To Burden Her Children With Royal Titles
Seward added, “They very much wanted them to be royal princesses and though they would certainly end as working royals.”
Princess Anne is Andrew’s older sister and she refused offers from the Queen to give her two children, Peter Phillips and Zara Tindall, a title upon birth.
The youngest of Queen Elizabeth’s children, Prince Edward, and his wife Sophie, the Countess of Wessex also turned down the HRH monikers for their two children.
Seward thinks that the subsequent pampering that was given to Beatrice and Eugenie as children contributed to criticism of them.
Prince Edward Also Refused Royal Titles For His Children
She notes, “They were probably far more indulged than ordinary children. I remember going once to the house where they were staying and was absolutely astounded. There was a little building in the garden and it was full of Barbie dolls. So they had a lot of stuff but they were very, very well brought up.”
Perhaps because of their titled life, the sisters often, “would often go and have tea with the Queen and Prince Philip … Fergie said they had three sets of manners – one was for home, one was for when they were out and one was for when they were with the Queen.”
