Princess Beatrice Borrowed Two Special Items From The Queen On Her Wedding Day

When Princess Beatrice married recently, her exceptional bond with her grandmother, Queen Elizabeth was on full display. Although the queen is known to share important and significant items with the brides in her family, Beatrice was given tokens above and beyond the pale.

Her Majesty typically allows royal brides to borrow a tiara or valuable and/or sentimental jewelry from her own collection and provides a wedding band made from gold mined from her own goldmine.

Princess Beatrice Was Allowed A Very Special Gift From The Queen On Her Wedding Day

But Princess Beatrice was an exception to this rule on her wedding day. On one of the most magical days of her life, the queen’s granddaughter walked down the aisle wearing not only her grandmother’s own wedding tiara but also a dress borrowed from the queen.

The vintage and historic dress were worn to the London premiere of Lawrence of Arabia in 1962. That Beatrice was allowed to wear it highlights the strong and close bond between them.

Beatrice And Her Grandmother Have An Incredibly Strong Bond

Beatrice strayed from modern wedding protocol when she chose to wear her grandmother’s heirloom dress. Modern Windsor brides have typically worked with leading fashion houses for outfitting the bridal party.

For instance, Princess Eugenie wore Peter Pilotto and Christopher De Vos and Kate Middleton chose Alexander McQueen. But Beatrice looked stunning in her throwback, diamante-adorned Norman Hartnell gown. She truly was a vision and at the same time paid tribute to the grandmother that has stood beside her entire life.

Beatrice Reconnected With Royal Tradition When She Chose To Wear Her Grandmother’s Gown

Prior to her big day Beatrice had the help of the Queen’s cherished dressmakers Angela Kelly and Stewart Parvin; they added organza puff sleeves to the otherwise striking dress.

Beatrice was married on July 17 after her earlier nuptial date was canceled due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic. She eventually had a small service at the Royal Chapel of All Saints on Windsor grounds.

According to New Idea, the Queen was so impressed with Beatrice’s decision to honor the past that she then offered up her very own wedding tiara, the Queen Mary Fringe Tiara which was worn in 1947. The sparkling diamond diadem is priceless and has been worn one other time, by the queen’s daughter Princess Anne, in her marriage to Captain Mark Phillips in 1973.

A source said, “Mark my word, she wouldn’t give that tiara or one of her own dresses to just any family member. Princess Beatrice earned this. Allowing Beatrice to wear this piece is tangible proof of the high esteem she holds both Bea and her younger sister Eugenie in.”
