Reports that Prince William and Princess Catherine could travel to India later this year appeared like mushrooms overnight. However, the central claim had already surfaced months earlier.
Will Catherine Attend Earthshot?
The Earthshot Prize ceremony in Mumbai is confirmed for November. However, The Mirror reported that Princess Catherine might accompany Prince William, saying plans for her attendance remain at an “early stage.” Kensington Palace has not confirmed that she will travel.
If she goes, it will be her first joint official trip abroad with Prince William since her 2024 cancer diagnosis, and it would also be her first Earthshot appearance since the 2022 Boston awards.
The ‘Catalyst’?
According to The Mirror, royal experts, including Russell Myers, believe Kate was the “catalyst” for the initiative. Reportedly, she encouraged William to go ahead with it despite his initial doubts.

The proposed trip could be politically sensitive, especially if it includes a stop in Delhi. A meeting with India’s prime minister would be an important diplomatic moment for the UK government.
But is any of this actually new? Not really.
A Report From Two Months Ago
Months ago, India Today Global posted a video on YouTube covering substantially the same travel claim.

In their description, the channel wrote, “Britain’s royal diplomacy is preparing for a major moment in India. Prince William and Princess Kate are expected to visit India later this year for what could become their biggest joint international mission in more than four years.”
It also mentioned that “the visit is expected to include the Earthshot Awards in Mumbai along with high-level engagements in New Delhi.”
Why Repackage Old Headlines?
Royal reports are frequently recycled before an official announcement, particularly when they generate attention on social media. Celebitchy questioned whether the latest coverage was repackaging an older report.
They wrote, “They’re trying to hype the idea that Kate will join William in India for the Earthshot BS later this year.”
Then they reminded readers that the Princess of Wales hasn’t been involved in Earthshot “in four years,” and importantly, her stepping away started before her cancer issues.
Skeptical about the catalyst claims, they added, “But now we’re supposed to believe that Kate is eager to go to India to support Earthshot [and]… believe that Kate was the linchpin for Earthshot!”
People also reported that Princess Catherine may attend, but neither Kensington Palace nor the Earthshot Prize organization has confirmed whether she will go along with William.
