Princess Diana Biographer Revealed That Elizabeth Debicki’s Diana Reminded Him Of The Real Diana

Have you seen that clip of “The Crown” where they recreated Princess Diana’s infamous interview with BBC’s Martin Bashir? The resemblance between Elizabeth Debicki and Diana was uncanny, and it certainly did not end in the facial department, it moved on to their expressions, their voice, the tilt of the head, the blink of the eyes, the smile and so much more.

In fact, it drove a royal commentator to say that Elizabeth Debicki was more of a Princess Diana than Princess Diana herself.

So it’s not a wonder that Princess Diana’s biographer was left “shocked” and “breathless” by Debicki’s performance.

Andrew Morton famously interviewed Diana for the 1992 biography “Diana: Her True Story”, a few years before her tragic death at a Tunnel in Paris, pursued by members of the press.

“It left me breathless, and it took me back all those years,” Morton said of watching Debicki’s role as Diana play out on screen. “I mean, I don’t say this very often, but I was shaken.”

The fifth season of “The Crown” focused on Charles and Diana’s very public marriage breakdown, with his siblings and his mother as a backdrop.

After “Diana: Her True Story” was released, news emerged that Diana and Morton used a middleman, Dr. James Colthurst, to communicate with each other throughout the entirety of the book’s writing.

“What I didn’t realize at the time was her sense of isolation, her sense of despair inside the royal system,” recalled Morton.

After Princess Diana’s death, Morton released an updated version of the book, where he revealed that the princess herself was the primary source of information whilst he worked on the book.

One thing that “The Crown”, however, didn’t want to get wrong was information concerning the 69-year-old journalist, who also serves as a consultant on the show.

“The scriptwriters had asked me all kinds of questions like, what was the color of the wallpaper in my daughter’s bedroom because that’s where I had an office for a time,” said Morton.
