Princess Diana Would Be Very Upset By Prince William And Harry Battle

Royal biographer Andrew Morton is convinced that Princess Diana would not be happy at the “space” between her sons, since she’s always thought of Harry as Prince William’s wingman.

“William’s future being as it is, and Harry like a form of a back-up in that aspect,” Princess Diana once said of her sons in an interview.

Andrew Morton Believes That Late Princess Diana Would Be Disappointed At Her Sons

Princess Diana has always pictured her sons growing up as best friends and tackling the arduous life of a royal side by side. But in recent times, it seems that the once close brothers have been caught up in a “fierce and bitter” argument, and Diana’s close confidante is sure the late princess would be heartbroken by the rift.

“Diana said to me quite clearly on several occasions that she saw Harry as the wingman for William in what ultimately would be a very solitary, somber job as future king,” Andrew Morton revealed on Friday’s episode of the U.K. talk show Loose Women.

Morton continued, “She would have been very upset at the way these two have split apart.” He worked privately with the princess and those close to her to write the 1992 biography Diana: Her True Story.

Morton believes that Diana, had she been here today, would have taken an active role in ensuring that peace reigns between her sons. “Knowing [the brothers’] personalities intimately, as a mother would do, she would be working out, perhaps with Prince Charles by her side, a way to reconcile them.”

Prince Charles Is “Shell-shocked” At His Sons’ Rift

Though Prince Charles’ dynamic with Harry has been complicated over the years, especially after the tragic incidence of Princess Diana’s accident in Paris, he’s still pained that William and Harry’s relationship is becoming strained.

A friend told PEOPLE that the Duke of Cornwall, 72, is “shellshocked by it all. He is very hurt and upset.”
Still, in a way, Diana is providing a means for the brothers to work through their differences, as they will reunite again to unveil the statue of their beloved mother in what would have been her 60th birthday.
Both Princes will reportedly walk out together in honor of their mother’s memory, even though they will both be giving separate speeches on that day.

“The Princes hope that the statue will help all those who visit Kensington Palace to reflect on their mother’s life and her legacy,” the statement announcing the statue’s commission read. Check back here for more Royal Family news and updates.
