The Film Delves Into Princess Diana’s Story
As the world delves into conversations about Meghan Markle and Prince Harry’s tell-all interview about the royal family with Oprah earlier this week, Kristen Stewart was busy working on a movie about how that same family treated Princess Diana, Harry’s mother.
With a tentative release date this fall, the film Spencer, from Pablo Larrain, revolves around the critical Christmas weekend that Diana spent in Sandringham in 1991, where she decided to get a divorce from Prince Charles.
Stewart Looks So Much Diana That It Feels Like You’re Seeing Double
In a previous interview for Jimmy Kimmel Live!, Stewart who has been filming the project all winter revealed some details of the plot, “movie takes place over three days, and it’s this really poetic internal imagining of what that might have felt like rather than giving new information. We sort of don’t have a mark to hit. We just also love her.”
When the Twilight actress was touted to play Diana there were naysayers who didn’t believe she had what it took. However, with the very first promotional shot Stewart who had a very regal look showed that she embodied her character perfectly.
Now in these second photos, Stewart channels Diana’s casual side as she walks about the set at Schloss Nordkirchen palace near Dortmund in Germany dressed in a tan gingham wrap coat, cream turtleneck, and dark pants. With a wig styled in Diana’s signature blonde bob and dangling earrings, the resemblance proves to be uncanny.
Stewart Is Committed To Understanding And Knowing Diana As Much As She Can
Stewart has also been doing a lot of prep to understand Diana’s character. Delving into her character, Stewart spoke about how much love she has for the princess at Jimmel Kimmel Live!. She said, ““I feel sort of the same way about her, and it happened really quickly. I didn’t grow up with her maybe in the same way. I was really young when she passed away,” she continued,” But now, it’s hard not to feel protective over her.”
As part of her prep, Kristen revealed during an interview with InStyle in October 2020, that she had been working with a coach to get Diana’s accent down. The actress who started her prep months ahead of filming, said, “The accent is intimidating as all hell because people know that voice, and it’s so, so distinct and particular. I’m working on it now and already have my dialect coach.
“In terms of research, I’ve gotten through two and a half biographies, and I’m finishing all the material before I actually go make the movie. It’s one of the saddest stories to exist ever, and I don’t want to just play Diana—I want to know her implicitly. I haven’t been this excited about playing a part, by the way, in so long.”
